The main purpose of Værløse Historical Society is to propagate the knowledge of the history of Værløse and its surroundings from prehistoric times and up to the present time and also to strengthen the consciousness of local people about their local history. We define Værløse in this context as both the town and its near surroundings, what previously was called Værløse Kommune.

Værløse Historical Society co-operates with the similar society in the neighbouring town of Farum. Members of the two societies can participate in all the activities of both societies.

The society is also a community of interests that support and co-operate with Furesø Museums and appoints two members and one deputy member of the governing board of the museum.

The highest authority of Værløse Historical Society is the annual general assembly, where all approximately 800 members have the right to vote. The ordinary general assembly takes place each year at the end of March. Here the board of directors are elected, the chairmen and treasurer.

Society is governed by a board of directors that is supported in its every day work by a number of working committees and interest groups, in which many members of the society are engaged and put in a lot of effort. Many members also work as volunteers in Furesø Museums especially in our local museum Mosegaarden and local archive in Farum.

Four times a year the society issues to its members 12-page publication BAVNEN (The Beacon) containing issues of the local history and the announcement of coming events.

Every spring the society also publishes a 48 page annual report WITHERLØSE containing articles on local history and records the activities of the society in the past year.
